Thanks to numerous sales trip to the US, Gilles also discovers another passion for Bourbons. Main compenent in Bourbon is corn (mini 51% for bourbon), Gilles prefers Bourbons with an higher Rye content. He has acquired several barrels with different content of rye to make his own blend, another Champagne Twist.

Bourbon has to be aged in new barrels for the 1st 3 years of its life in the US. Smooth, sweet bourbon whiskey offers notes of vanilla, white pepper, sticky caramel and crunchy toffee apples.

Who Is "Specialites Dumangin" ?

This story starts with Gilles Dumangin, a fifth generation Champagne grower passionate about the effects of cask ageing on champagnes, fortified wines and spirits.

Recognised for his precision and expertise in ageing of his Ratafia Champenois (a fortified wine made with Champagne must and Champagne based spirits - see below), he decided to give his barrels a third life and apply his knowledge of wood to other high quality spirits.

Every spirit released under the "Specialites Dumangin" brand have originally been racked or re-racked in 228 L Barriques previously used to age Ratafia Champenois for many years. The spirits chosen come from all over the world. Their common characteristics? High quality, small batches, timely release.

What is Ratafia Champenois?

Ratafia Champenois is a subtle blend of selected Champagne must and Champagne based spirits. The 18% alcohol liquor is then wood aged for a long period of time (in Champagne Dumangin case a minimum of 6 years) in 228L Barriques previously used to age mainly the best Northern Cotes Du Rhone red wines.

It is best served with cheese / melon and prosciutto / game meat as well as being an excellent pre-dinner or dessert wine.
