"Rich and extremely aromatic, the nose is dominated by an assortment of red fruits and chocolate, but there’s also mint, paint thinner, and soy. The palate is rich and fruity, with blackberries and plums, but it also has a nutty element, as well as cloves. Finally the finish shifts to a drier note, highlighted by tobacco leaves and cocoa." - Thijs Klaverstijn, Distiller
"This is a boldly, sweet whisky for those who want the most intense Oloroso sherry cask experience possible. It features concentrated flavors that deliver a well-executed Oloroso character. It reminds me of the Amrut Single cask I reviewed a few weeks ago, but with less of the Amrut’s earthy and rancio notes. The Amrut can feel a bit muddy at times while this Kalavan feels like a cleaner interpretation of Oloroso influence. A bit of water opens up the nose but softens the palate, reducing the heat and spice but doesn’t destroy the pour. So if this Kalavan turns up the heat a bit too much for you, inviting a splash of water could be the best course of action. Overall, this Kavalan Oloroso single cask is a delicious, beautiful, complex, and distinctive whisky, one that I can’t quite get enough of." - Chris Ellis, The Whisky Study (95 Points)
"This is pretty exemplary when it comes to Kavalan or quality sherry in general. A tad rough and robust perhaps, but an absolutely faultless sherry bomb. They’ve really perfected this style at Kavalan. This reminds me I should try some other sherry styles from Kavalan (Amontillado and Manzanilla), let me track them down for a follow-up tasting." - Ruben, Whisky Notes (89 Points)
