The first ever Australian barrel pick fromBardstown Bourbon Company.
This cask was selected on the ground in Kentucky alongside a group that truly represents the Australian bourbon community. Joining Whiskey Hunt Australia's Brock Tregellas were Scott Allan, Andrew Christie, Jeremy Pattison (@whiskefy), Dean Terranova from Iconic Beverages, and the crew from the Bourbon Capital Guild.
Different palates. Different backgrounds. One unanimous decision.
After working through a lineup of samples inside the rickhouse, this barrel stood out immediately. No debate. No second guessing. The very first cask they tasted was the standout, and it was locked in for Australia on the spot. The whole crew signed the cask with their names so it was super obvious it was destined one day down under. The whiskey has finally arrived and we're so excited to finally share with y'all!
About The Whiskey:
At 6 years old, distilled on 2 January 2019 and matured in Warehouse D, 4th Floor, this single barrel captures everything we look for in a WHA pick.
At the time of sampling, it came in at 122.1 proof. Since then, it has settled into a final bottling strength of 120.8 proof (60.4% ABV).
What made this barrel special wasn’t just power, it was balance.
Not over-oaked. Not too hot. Just a beautifully composed bourbon that delivers richness, structure, and drinkability in equal measure.
In Scott’s words: "Super balanced, with that fudgey, clean caramel richness that just coats your palate."
Tasting Notes:
A seriously well-balanced cask strength bourbon. Rich, structured, and dangerously easy to go back to.
Aroma: Oak and orange zest upfront, with layers of brown sugar and light tobacco.
Palate: Stone fruits and orange peel lead, followed by oak and brown sugar. A touch of barrel char adds depth, while a Werther’s-style caramel note softens and rounds everything out.
Finish: Long, coating, and gently warming, with lingering caramel and spice.
