40YO Glenmorangie for under $1k.

A mysterious, anonymous whisky from the Highland region.

Our Enigma releases allow us to broaden our (already extensive) range of releases, while giving our customers as much information as we dare...

Enigma code: HIG.3.A

Enigma bottling from this undisclosed Highland distillery, this 40 year old whisky has been fully matured in Bourbon hogsheads. A proper old-school whisky, our tasting panel highlighted notes of brandy snaps, grilled pineapple, vanilla ice cream and Serrano ham.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: An old-school whisky. Musty, brandy snaps, ginger, almond flakes.

Flavour: Clementines, shortcrust pastry, gingernuts, aniseed, grilled pineapple.

Finish: Vanilla ice cream, lemongrass, applewood, Serrano ham.

"The long and short of it: a wonderful, wonderful dram. The harmony between spirit and cask, after 40 years, is fantastic. With an overly active cask, this would be like sipping a log, with an overly tired cask, you’d likely be drinking something under matured. This however, is delightfully fresh and vibrant with just enough wood in there to lift everything and crank up the experience. Playful and ‘easy’ but with enough of a hook to things and absolutely dripping with quality. A sheer delight!" - Malty Mission

"Rumour has it it's Glenmorangie. It brings to mind old ex-bourbons from the 1960s, raw and dry." - Whiskybase User (90 Points)

"I’d buy this bottle again if I ever had a chance. On paper it’s not my jam but it’s just kind of perfectly executed." - /r/whiskey (user: Singlemaltbourbonrye)
