Released for the first time in the March 2013, each batch is a an uncut, unfiltered selection of Elijah Craig 12 Year. Each batch will vary both in flavour and in proof as is the nature of such releases.
The "code" for the batches is as follows: The first letter of each batch indicates the order of the release for that year beginning with the letter "A" for the first batch, "B" for the second, and so on. Next is a number which reflects the month of the release, so "1" for January for example. The third and fourth digits reflect the year of the release. This batch number is printed on the front of each bottle along with the proof.
"Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is consistently a fantastic Bourbon release and batch B523 is no exception. This tasting experience of this release starts off with an incredible nose that’ll have you begging for a taste." - Matthew Evans, Whiskey Consensus (95 Points)
"Despite a lower age statement, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is out to prove age isn’t everything by releasing one of its best batches in a long time." - Eric Hasman, Breaking Bourbon (Well Above Average)
"Regardless of age, one has to ask... did they put crack in this release? It's incredible how much this one makes you want to keep sipping. If you can't tell by the fill level on this bottle (I had help), I've clearly been victimized by the deliciousness of this batch." - Nick Anderson, Amongst The Whiskey (92 Points)
"The nose gives of all the classic bourbon aromas of red apples, bing cherries, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and hints of pinecone and vanilla. The palate is elegantly robust, with bursts of flavor hitting all the right notes of caramel, fruit, tart, and spicy with a note of chicory adding further complexity. A spark of heat flares up in the finish, but carries through the other flavors." - Amanda Schuster, Distiller (92 Points)
