Batch 01
130 Proof / 65% ABV
The newest release to the 117 Series is here, Prohibition Era Still Proof. The latest expression pays homage to Old Forester’s storied past as one of the few distilleries legally permitted to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes during Prohibition.
Tasting Notes:
Aroma: On the nose, bright orange peel is balanced with warm toasted oak and subtle hints of chocolate nougat, hazelnut and honey.
Palate: The palate is excited with an immediate pop of crisp apple followed by rich baklava and warm cinnamon spice.
Finish: An intense finish of rye spice and white pepper with a bit of zesty citrus lingers on the pallet.
"This is some very good whiskey. While I haven’t found every single 117 Series release to be a home run, this is at least a triple in my book. The interplay between confectionery notes, citrus, and spice is memorable in and of itself; balancing those flavors in a bold 130 proof package is an even more impressive accomplishment." - David Thomas Tao, Forbes
"The palate surprises as it’s not quite as overwhelming as the nose would indicate, with brown sugar and molasses notes offering a juicy, quite fruity character that quickly slides into notes of fig and raisin, followed by chocolate and a hint of coffee bean. At full strength the whiskey is bold but just shy of overwhelming, and a splash of water is hugely helpful to take the spirit’s foot off of your windpipe and open up some secondary notes — black tea, mint, and preserved lemons in syrup. The whiskey finishes sweet with a reprise of peanut and some roasted corn notes, a gentle maple element lingering." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
"Old Forester 117 Series: Prohibition Era Still Proof is a rich and controlled 130 proof bourbon that leans heavily on bold barrel flavors, while largely omitting the brand's typical fruit notes." - Eric Hasman, Breaking Bourbon
"Old Forester 117 Series Prohibition Era Still Proof is a masterclass in high-proof integration and flavor density. At 130 proof, you might expect at least a little burn, but instead, the heat is flawlessly woven into a full-bodied, thick palate rich with dark espresso, cherry, and decadent baking chocolate. The transition from a spice-forward nose to a long, complex finish dominated by oak and clove makes this a standout release for enthusiasts who crave intensity without sacrificing refinement." - Matthew Evans, Whiskey Consensus (90 Points)
