The Vallepicciola Chianti Classico DOCG is a premium Italian red wine crafted by the Vallepicciola winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga, located on the southern side of Tuscany’s prestigious Chianti Classico zone. Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine serves as a classic expression of its terroir, blending traditional Tuscan character with modern refinement.
Taste & Aroma Profile:
Appearance: Pale to brilliant ruby red with subtle purple nuances.
Nose: Vibrant and expressive, featuring aromas of red forest fruits (currants, heart cherry, and wild plum), violets, iris, black pepper, and hints of dried herbs or undergrowth.
Palate: Fresh and medium-bodied with clear fruit at its core. It features a smooth, soft, yet grippy tannic structure, balanced by taut acidity and a persistent, velvety finish.
Production & Terroir:
Vineyards: Grapes are grown at an altitude of 380–440 metres above sea level on limestone-clay soils rich in alberese and galestro, which provide the wine with distinct elegance and acidity.
Ageing Process: The wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation and a 10-day maceration period in temperature-controlled steel tanks. It completes malolactic fermentation in French oak, followed by 10 months of ageing in large barrels, 6–8 months in second-passage barriques, and an additional 3–5 months of refining in the bottle.
Ideal Food Pairings:
Cured Meats & Antipasti: Platters of prosciutto, salami, and cured Tuscan pork.
Cheese: Medium-aged cheeses like pecorino or semi-hard cow’s milk cheeses.
Pasta & First Courses: Pappardelle or pasta with rich Tuscan meat ragù. Tomato-based pasta or classic lasagna.
Meat & Roast: Roast pork loin (arista di maiale) with rosemary and garlic. Simple grilled or roasted red meats.
Pizza: Wood-fired pizzas with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and savory toppings.
